We chose the name Varuna for it’s meaning. It is the name of the Vedic deity associated with water and the Sanskrit word for truth/enlightenment.
Our aim is to bring insights to the fingertips of the hardworking employees of water utilities so they can provide clean water.
Jamail has more than 16 years of experience successfully leading business development and sales operations, including defining strategy and managing teams within the consulting, telecoms and utility industries. Most recently, before founding Varuna, Jamail led business development and sales at Uplift Data Partners the leading drone service provider for the AEC industry, which was recently acquired. Before joining Uplift, he rejuvenated the public sector practice for Gartner in Illinois. Jamail was the first employee at Power2Switch, where he led business development and sales efforts from the early days till the company was acquired. He has an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and his BA from Vanderbilt University (where he was also the quarterback).
Chief Commercial Officer/CoFounder
Seyi has more than 19 years of experience developing, deploying and investing in technology solutions for the utility industry. Prior to founding Varuna, Seyi spent several years consulting with the leading utilities in the US and in emerging markets on their technology strategy and product development. This came after founding, raising venture capital, hiring an amazing team for and eventually selling Power2Switch, the leading retail energy marketplace technology company. Prior to this, he worked in operations and software development for a 1000MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant in London serving 500k residents of the city. Seyi has an MBA from the Booth School of Business at University of Chicago, and an MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Warwick University in the UK.

Emily is a high-energy leader and entrepreneur with nearly a decade of experience in marketing strategy, operations, and business management. Through her work with businesses ranging from early-stage startups (Openfinance, DailyVest) to established enterprises (PlanMeca, Regroup), Emily is an expert at understanding customers’ unique needs and developing customer journeys and user experiences to serve their needs.
